For the past one week, I haven’t slept. No, not even a wink!
“I can’t sleep well! “ I complained to my husband yesterday night.
“All you need is to just relax, meditate, think something good and sleep!”
“But I can’t relax with so many issues running in my mind! I have to think of what to cook tomorrow, what will happen next tomorrow, in that mega serial I watch daily! I have to search for a topic to blog.so much in my mind! I can’t sleep!”
I could hear him snoring.
I got up and started browsing the net and googled to see if there are any tips for a good sleep.
“Give generously and sleep well.” This was one tip I got from a search in Google.
Okkk, from tomorrow, I shall give!
The thought itself made me relax and drowsy.
It was the dawn of the day.
Today was a day to give.
It was my neighbour’s birthday.
“Hi Prema aunty! Best wishes for your birthday!”
I “gave” her my best wishes.
She turned 75 today.
“As if I want to celebrate! Are you teasing me because I am growing old?” She has turned a grouch!
“But 75 is not an age at all, these days!”
I tried to “give” her confidence.
She turned the other side, hinting that she will feel better if I leave.
Because I gave, I had to take.
I “took” a deep breath and left that place.
I came back home, and my husband was getting ready for office.
“That blue shirt suits you!”
I “gave” him a compliment.
He looked happy.
“But you would have done well with that striped pant!”
I thought he was in a “taking” mood and I “gave” him advice.
“Who wants your advice? I know what to wear!”
Well, I should have stopped with “giving” compliment!
I waved a good bye and was watching the happenings on the road from the balcony.
A little boy was throwing a stone at a stray dog.
I felt like “giving” him a punch on the nose!
But perhaps there is a limit to giving. If I give, I might have to “take” it back!
The fruitseller was selling fruits on the road.
I went down to buy and I noticed my other neighbour coming down along with me.
“Hi Good morning! How are you?”
She was in a hurry to go to office.
‘Hi!”
Wishing me, she rushed towards her scooty. She tripped and fell down because she was she was late and was in a hurry..
Her plumpy figure similar to mine was comical to look at, at that time.
I could not stifle my laughter but my “giving” intuition made me “give “my hand.
‘I don’t want your hand!” she creamed.
“But I can’t take it. I need to sleep tonight. I have to give!”
“What nonsense. Sometimes I don’t understand what you talk!” She left.
Meanwhile, the fruit seller was holding the basket of fruits.
“Give me money. I have to go!”
I “gave” him money.
“Take these notes and give me change!”
“No, I can’t take, I can only give!”
“What has happened to this woman?” He muttered to himself and went away.
I felt like “giving” him a piece of my mind.
I came up the stairs carrying the fruits.
I remembered that it’s been long since I called my sis.
“Hi sis!”
“So it took you so long to give me a call?”
“I won’t take. I only give!” I said.
“What is wrong with you? I think you have been before the comp for long. Take a break and take rest!”
“Nooooooo, don’t ask me to take anything!”
My sis hung up. Yikes, probably she would have thought I was off my mind today.
At the end of the day, I wondered what I have given that day. Will I get enough sleep? Have I given generously that day?
I had given my best wishes, compliments, advice, helping hand, my opinions. In turn, I was asked to take rest, take a break, and take my words back! Everyone wants to give and no one wants to take!
“Do you think you will sleep today?”
“How can I? I gave but nobody took!”
He looked at me puzzled.
“Perhaps I should take you to the doc tomorrow!”
“Try to catch a wink or two, now! Good night and ‘Take care”!
Will I ever be able to sleep better? Waaaaaaaaaa!
